What is BOTOX®made from?

Is BOTOX® safe?

BOTOX® is probably the safest way to get rid of wrinkles. It is a natural compound that is completely temporary (it lasts up to 6 months) with no severe side effects. It is injected directly into the muscle. A spasm is when your muscle contracts or moves on its own. It feels like twitching. BOTOX®, is a protein (Botulinum toxin) that stops muscle spasms. It is made from a neurotoxin called botulinum toxin produced by Clostridium botulinum bacteria.

Does BOTOX® have any side effects?

BOTOX® has no severe side effects on health. After the application, there might be temporary swelling, bruising, or drooping of the eyelid, which is very rare. However, immediately after the operation, you can easily keep up with your daily routine. When someone is receiving too much treatment with anti-wrinkle injections, the skin can become extremely smooth and the light bounces off in a uniform way. So, the skin appears shiny, which is why it can look ‘frozen’ BOTOX® blocks nerve signals to muscles. As a result, injected muscles can’t contract (tense up). These effects are always temporary, but can last for several months. The muscle injected depends on the primary area of concern. Several areas can be treated in one session.

What Happens When You Get BOTOX®?

When BOTOX® is injected into the patient’s Face, it relaxes the contraction of facial muscles by blocking nerve impulses. Since these muscles will no longer be able to contract, the Face relaxes and softens and reduces wrinkles and creases in the skin. BOTOX® is a protein (Botulinum toxin) that stops muscle spasms. It is made from a neurotoxin called botulinum toxin, produced by Clostridium botulinum bacteria.

What Brands MAKE BOTOX®?

Most common brands used currently are BOTOX® and Dysport. They are both fine brands and ensure a safe treatment. There are also many miscellaneous brands which may not be FDA approved and they are not recommended. In Dr. Abedini’s clinic we only use the two safe brands.
